More Info...

Where will the personalization be imprinted? Most Bibles and some Bible covers are imprinted in the front lower right corner, some in the lower center. The exact location is determined at the time of imprinting and varies by product.

What color will it be? Color depends on the color of other parts on the cover or the color of the page edges--usually gold or silver. Some products will have an impression only (no color applied) if the colored foils will not adhere well to the material.

How long will it take? Most items are personalized the same or next business day.
Personalizing a product usually does not delay the shipment.
Only our main warehouse is equipped to personalize with initials. Initialed products may require up to seven days to ship out.

This Bible was a gift from my wife that I received in May, 2013. Now that I have used this regularly for the last two years I feel I'm in a good position to offer an accurate review. The short of it is that this is the most durable, well-made Bible I own. It is the only Bible I have owned that didn't start to come apart or at least severely wear down after a few months of use. After two solid years of preaching, teaching, classroom work, carrying it in a bag, study, etc., the most problematic area Bibles seem to have (that place where the inside cover material attaches to the text block's end paper) is still secure and holding just fine. It's not even wearing there. The cover material, as advertised, is "genuine leather," which is most likely pigskin. It is very thin leather, and feels very stiff...not much different than bonded leather. It has softened and become fairly limp (compliant anyway) with use. Mine has recently started feeling like real leather. This really isn't much of a complaint, just an observation. It's obviously not going to be as flexible as higher-end Bibles with premium leather covers, but for a Bible in this price range, this is about as good as you can do. From what I have read, the higher-end Holman Christian Standard Bibles in cowhide are about the best covers you can find in this price range. You can look for the higher end version of the Minister's Bible, the Deluxe Edition, which has a higher grade leather binding. I have not actually seen this Bible in person but have read a review of it at www.bibledesignblog.com which was very favorable. Although this Bible has full-size 6"x9" dimensions, the thickness being just over an inch makes it still a decent Bible for holding open for preaching. I do mostly no-podium, no-notes preaching, and this Bible suits me just fine. This is about as thick as you can go for this kind of preaching, in my opinion. I have a NET Bible Reader's edition, which is exactly the same height and width, but is about 1/4" thicker, and it just seems too bulky for me to preach from without a podium. That 1/4" makes a big difference. Where this Bible might lack in cover material, it makes up for in paper quality. I'm no expert on paper and type, but from what I can see, this Bible has excellent paper. It's slightly off-white, which cuts down on glare from lights (an added plus if you're preaching with stage lighting). The paper is opaque enough to not allow too much bleed-through, and it is line-matched, which means the line of text on the opposite side of the page you're reading appears exactly in line with what you're reading, so you don't have a ghosted line of text peaking out from the top of the words you're trying to read. That also increases legibility, and it a mark of a more high-end Bible. It's also a black-letter edition, so no words of Christ in red. All black letters. I think that's a safe choice; given the lighting some red ink becomes unreadable. My only real complaint has to do with the font size, but more on that later because that ties in with the addition of the Ministry Resource Guide, a section at the back of the book along with the concordance and maps. This Bible follows in the tradition of Zondervan's semi-famous NIV Pastor's Bible, which has been out of print for about 10 years...you want to see something crazy, search for that bad boy on Amazon, and you'll see some crazy high prices for Bibles. I received one last year as a gift, still in box, still wrapped in plastic and I don't even want to know the price. Anyway, having both, it is interesting to compare it to this Minister's Bible. The Ministry Resource guide is nearly identical between these Bibles, so I would be interested to know the story behind these from two different publishers. That said, the addition of this resource guide at the back means Hendrickson couldn't afford the Bible thickness for a larger print Bible, so the font size had to scaled down (at least, I imagine this is the case) to keep it thin. This Bible is basically the size of a regular large print ultrathin, but to keep it "ultrathin" it couldn't be large print. It's not a problem for my eyes; my complaint is that since I preach verse-by-verse, I simply don't need to see that many words on an open page of Scripture, so I usually find myself folding the cover back so I'm only looking at one page at a time. I don't need to see 500 words of text when my sermon is only covering 40, for example. All in all, I find myself with this Bible in my hands more often than not on my way to and from the church I serve, and I recommend it, and have bought it for a friend. Fine thought: this Bible was advertised as having two ribbon markers, although mine came with only one. I have heard others say the same thing. Hendrickson makes a good Bible. Solid, long-lasting, even if there are aesthetic preference differences I may have. I'd buy it again. -Michael Durso (www.michaelrdurso.wordpress.com)
